Alan John Segal began making his abstract works in 1998. They are composed of individually cut pieces of wood joined together in ensembles, and painted in acrylic colors, thus partaking of painting and sculpture. Some are attached to the wall, others hang from the ceiling.
He has taught at the University of London and the City University of New York, and has devoted himself to artistic work after many years of teaching and writing. Born in Australia, he is a resident of the United States, and visits Europe frequently. His works are held in private collections in the United States and Europe, and have been displayed in the following contests and exhibitions: Finalist in the 20th Annual Faber Birren National Color Award Show, Stamford Art Association, Stamford, Connecticut, October 15–November 19, 2000. Awarded a Prize for Individual Merit by the Stamford Art Association in its Winter Blooms juried contest and exhibition, December 10, 2000–January 4, 2001.
